Virat Kohli is letting his bat do the talking amid constant speculations over his ODI future and chances of making the cut in India’s squad for the 2027 World Cup. Having made his long-awaited return to competitive cricket during the Australia tour with back-to-back ducks, Kohli has ever since been on a productive run that has seen him score two centuries and as many half-centuries in his last four international matches.
He has also carried that fine form into domestic cricket where, representing Delhi, he scored 131 against Andhra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy opener and followed that with an aggressive 77 vs Gujarat today.
The veteran batter has retired from Tests and T20Is with ODI now the only format that he plays for India. His childhood coach
Rajkumar Sharma believes that the ex-India captain is fully prepared for the next ODI World Cup to be held in Africa.
“He (Kohli) is in brilliant form and has continued his form. He batted very well and ensured Delhi’s victory. He played domestic cricket after a long time and played a brilliant knock. He has scored hundreds in his previous two matches and is the most consistent player of the Indian team. For me, he is fully ready for the World Cup,” Sharma told news agency ANI.
Sharma also defended Kohli’s quiet return to international cricket earlier this year, citing his incredible record while stating a couple of innings won’t make him a bad player.
“He’s a big player and knows what changes have to be made in his batting. He’s always been consistent. There might be a phase where one or two bad innings but that doesn’t mean he’s lost the touch. His record speaks for itself,” Sharma said.
Kohli will next play international cricket in January when New Zealand will be touring India for white-ball matches that include three ODIs and five T20Is.
