India’s Sachin Siwach defeated Namibia’s Tryagain Morning Ndevelo via a split 3-2 decision in the final of the men’s 60kg boxing event on Saturday (August 1) to win India’s sixth gold medal in boxing at the Commonwealth Games 2026.

The Indian boxer was trailing after the first two rounds but made a stunning comeback in the third round to get the better of his opponent in the gold medal bout and take India’s gold medal tally to 12 at the ongoing Games.
Sachin is the first Indian male boxer to win a gold medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games. Before him, five female boxers — Preeti Pawar, Jaismine Lamboria, Sakshi Chaudhary, Priya Ghanghas and Arundhati Choudhary — managed to win gold medals
for India on Saturday.
Two more Indian male boxers, Ankush Panghal and Narender Berwal, are set to feature in the gold medal bouts of their respective weight categories on Saturday. They will also look to win the yellow metal and extend India’s gold medal tally to eight.
In previous editions of the Commonwealth Games, Indian boxers had won a total of 11 gold medals. At the ongoing Games, they have already secured six and can add two more to their tally.
Mohammed Ali Qamar was the first Indian boxer to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. Qamar clinched the yellow metal in the Light Flyweight category at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
Akhil Kumar won gold at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, while three Indian boxers — Suranjoy Mayengbam, Manoj Kumar and Paramjeet Samota — secured gold medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

Indian boxers failed to win a gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow but bounced back strongly, winning three gold medals each in the 2018 and 2022 editions.
