The BCCI on Tuesday announced the squad for the upcoming 2-match Test series in Sri Lanka, starting August 15. Seasoned all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja returned to the side after missing out on the Afghanistan Test, while Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Saransh Jain was handed a maiden call-up.

Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah and top-order batter B Sai Sudharsan were included in the squad, but their participation is subject to fitness clearance from the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence.
Spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar was unavailable for selection for the first Test after sustaining an injury during the white-ball tour of England earlier this month.
Several media reports had suggested that Sundar would miss the first Test, while pacer Harshit Rana and all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy are also set to be ruled out for the entire series.
Rana suffered a hamstring injury during the third T20I between India and England in Nottingham on July 7, while Nitish was ruled out due to an aggravated left quadriceps injury ahead of India’s tour of Ireland and England in June-July 2026.

The BCCI release further stated that the Shubman Gill-led side will play a four-day practice match in Colombo, starting on 7 August, ahead of the series. The first Test will be held in Galle from August 15 to 19, while the second will take place in Colombo (SSC) from August 23 to 27.
