Morocco moved into the semifinal of the African Cup of Nations with their 2-0 win over Cameroon as Brahim Diaz and Ismael Saibari netted for Walid Regragui and Co.
The Atlas Lions moved into the final-four
of the continental event for the first time in 22 years, and Regragui called it a historic occassion, but reiterated that his side need to keep both feet firmly on the ground.
“We need to just keep going one game at a time. We have not done anything yet,” the Morocco boss said.
Diaz and Ismael Saibari helped the hosts registered a resounding win as the former became the first player in Morocco’s history to net five goals at the event.
“It was our best first-half performance I think since the World Cup, with lots of pressing and intensity,” Regragui said.
“I think we deserved the win even though things evened out a bit in the second half.”
“It is historic. Moroccans have not seen their team in the semi-finals of an AFCON for 22 years,” the coach said.

Diaz, who made it five goals in as many appearances in the edition of the AFCON, joined DR Congo’s Ndaye Mulamba, Egypt’s Gedo and Cameroon’s Vincent Aboubakar to become only the fourth player to net in five different games at the event.
“He is the X factor of my team. He has been amazing, scoring in every game. Tonight he sent a message to the rest of the side with the way he ran and fought.”
