Scot Skipper Andy Robertson Makes Spurs Switch After Fabled Liverpool Stint

Scotland skipper and Liverpool fan-favourite Andy Robertson completed his move to Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspurs on Friday to mark Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi’s first purchase after having helped the club avoid the drop last season in dramatic fashion.

Robertson, who started out his youth career with spells at Celtic and Queen’s Park, went on to make his senior debut for the latter in 2012, before switching to Dundee United in the following season. He played for Hull City for three years before Jurgen Klopp swapped him up for Liverpool, with whom the Scot enjoyed a trophy-laden career.

“We are delighted to announce the

signing of Andy Robertson. A leader on and off the field, the highly decorated Scotland captain will join the Club on July 1 following the expiration of his contract at Liverpool,” the London club said in a statement confirming the transfer of the full-back.

“Andy is someone I’ve admired for a number of years and he will bring outstanding technical qualities, experience, leadership and mentality to our team,” De Zerbi said.

“He is a proven winner at the highest level over a long period and is someone who can be a big player for us, both on and off the pitch,” the coach added.

“We are delighted to welcome Andy to the club. First and foremost, he is an outstanding left-back – one of the best of all time in the Premier League, and someone who will improve our squad,” Spurs Sporting Director Johan Lange said.

“In addition, his quality, character and leadership have been evident throughout a career in which he has regularly competed for – and won – major honours.”

“Andy’s professionalism and commitment will also be invaluable to the development of our squad, and he shares our ambition and determination to bring success back to the Club.
