The parents of Siya Goyal, who has been accused of murdering her fiancé, Pune businessman Ketan Agarwal, have claimed that their daughter had repeatedly expressed her desire to marry him and never indicated that there were any issues in the relationship.
Siya’s mother, Pooja Goyal, said Siya and her lover Chetan Chaudhary had known each other after meeting during a cricket tournament. However, she maintained that the family was aware only of a friendship that later developed into a marriage proposal.
According to Pooja, Siya consistently told her family that she liked Ketan and wanted to spend her life with him.
“Every time she told us, ‘Yes, I like Ketan. I like everything, and I want to marry him. I don’t have anything with anyone else’,” Pooja
told India Today, recalling her daughter’s conversations with the family.
Siya’s father, Praveen Goyal, also said he had no reason to suspect any problems between the couple and claimed he was never informed of any concerns by Ketan’s family.
“Ever since the match was finalised, she was always happy. She always talked about Ketan. If they (Ketan’s parents) had even slightly informed us that something was going wrong, we would have spoken to them,” he said.
Praveen further stated that he had never met or spoken to Chetan Chaudhary, whose name had surfaced during the investigation.
Two days after Siya’s arrest, Praveen suffered a heart attack and was subsequently hospitalised.
The statements come amid an ongoing investigation into the death of Ketan Agarwal, who allegedly fell from Lohagad Fort near Pune. Siya attempted to pass it off as an accident, saying Ketan slipped while taking a photo. However, a police probe later revealed that Siya Goyal pushed Ketan off the fort. Both Siya and Chetan have been sent to judicial custody till June 29.
