As the West Asia war entered its sixth month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday claimed that Iran’s Islamic Republic could soon fall, saying the regime was weaker than ever as the United States resumed attacks.
Netanyahu said he is convinced that the Iranian threat can be removed once and for all.
“I am convinced that we can remove this threat once and for all — that is, to overthrow this regime. That is the central task that still lies ahead of us, but it is close. It is not impossible. It is within reach,” Netanyahu said at an event with military leaders.
“They are not just failing to attack us. They attack everyone, except us. They know our power, the force of our arm, and our determination. I say to our enemies, do not mess
with us. If you have learned anything, do not mess with us,” he added.
Top Iranian leadership, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, was killed in US-Israeli strikes in late February this year. Netanyahu and his ally in the White House, US President Donald Trump, had expected the strikes to put further pressure on Tehran and potentially trigger the collapse of the Iranian regime.
However, Iran retaliated with a series of strikes, launching drones and missiles at targets across the Gulf region and continuing to resist the US-Israeli campaign.
A brief lull in fighting followed, but fresh clashes that began with US raids on Sunday have deepened the standoff. Iran has maintained its grip over the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, while the US has stepped up its counter-blockade of Iranian ports.
On Tuesday, US forces carried out what Trump described as a “very heavy attack” on Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s military on Thursday targeted US bases in the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, despite Trump’s threats of further strikes.
The latest escalation has raised fresh concerns over the security of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy route, and the possibility of the conflict widening across the Gulf.
