Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his plans to retire soon as he prepares for the emotional conclusion of his stellar career with Portugal and Al Nassr. In an interview with Piers Morgan Uncensored, Ronaldo spoke
about his retirement plans and life after football.
The 40-year-old, who has scored an incredible 952 goals, is one of the most accomplished players in the history of the game. However, the end of his remarkable career is approaching.
“Soon. But I think I will be prepared. It will be tough, of course. It will be difficult? Yes. Probably will cry, yes. I’m an open person. It will be very, very difficult, yes. But Piers, I have been preparing for my future since I was 25, 26, 27 years old. So I think I will be capable of handling that pressure,” the Portuguese star said.
Ronaldo is confident he will manage life without football as he plans to focus on his family and interests off the pitch.
“Nothing will compare to the adrenaline of scoring a goal in football,” he said. “But everything has a beginning and an end. I have other passions. I will have more time for myself, for my family, to raise my kids. I want to follow Cristiano Junior because he is at an age where kids do silly things. I was the same. Mateo loves football as well. I want to do more fun things. I enjoy playing padel with my closest friends. We’re getting quite good.”
Ronaldo’s career began with Sporting Lisbon, followed by successful stints at Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus. During his first spell at Manchester United, he won three Premier League titles and the Champions League, among other trophies.
In 2022, Ronaldo joined Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr after his second departure from Manchester United. Despite this, he still follows the Premier League club’s results due to his connection with their current manager, his former Portugal teammate Ruben Amorim.
However, Ronaldo advised United fans not to expect miracles from Amorim, who has faced challenges during his tenure at Old Trafford since his arrival 12 months ago.
“He’s doing his best,” Ronaldo said. “What can you do? Miracles? Miracles are impossible. He’s not going to perform miracles. They have good players, but some of them do not understand what Manchester United is. Manchester United is still in my heart. I love that club. But we all need to be honest and acknowledge that they are not on a good path. They need change, and it’s not just about the coach and players, in my opinion.”
