Actor Sunny Deol has offered fresh insight into one of his most anticipated upcoming projects, revealing that the title of his period drama Lahore 1947 may not be final. The film, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan, is slated to hit theatres during Independence Day week this year.
Sunny Hints At Possible Title Change
Speaking to ANI while discussing his packed release calendar, Sunny said the project could undergo a name revision before its theatrical debut. He shared, “Meri dher saari films aane wali hai. Unme se ek Lahore 1947 hai.. Shayad title change ho sakta hai shayad wohi rakhe. Film ek famous play pe based hai. 15 August ke time cinema halls me lagegi (I have several films in the pipeline. One of them is Lahore 1947…though the title may change, or it might
ultimately stay the same. The film is an adaptation of a celebrated stage play and is slated for a theatrical release in August),” hinting at ongoing discussions around branding and positioning.
According to information from the production team, the film is currently scheduled for release on August 13, 2026, aligning with the festive Independence Day corridor — traditionally a high-stakes window for major Hindi releases. The collaboration is notable as it marks the first time Sunny teams up with Santoshi and Aamir on a single project, raising expectations among fans and trade watchers alike.
Star Cast, Creative Team And Production Details
Backing the film under Aamir Khan Productions, Aamir Khan previously spoke about the script’s emotional significance and its connection to Sunny’s father. He said, “This was one of the favourite scripts of Dharamji, and I am so glad he could see the film.”
The ensemble cast includes Shabana Azmi, Preity Zinta, Ali Fazal, and Karan Deol, adding considerable star power to the period narrative. Music is composed by A. R. Rahman, with lyrics penned by Javed Akhtar, signalling a strong creative lineup behind the scenes.
Set against a historical backdrop and adapted from a celebrated stage play, the film promises to blend emotional storytelling with political context, though plot specifics remain under wraps. As Sunny continues to ride the wave of success following his recent releases, industry attention is firmly fixed on how Lahore 1947 — title change or not — shapes up ahead of its big-screen unveiling.
