The Agni-1, developed by the DRDO, can destroy targets within a range of 700 to 1,200 km. The missile can carry a payload of up to 1,000 kg and is capable of delivering both conventional and nuclear warheads. India keeps conducting periodic routine trials of missiles inducted by the SFC, a critical part of the Nuclear Command Authority (NCA) in India.
Earlier this month, India successfully conducted flight-trial of an Advanced Agni missile that is capable to targeting multiple targets at once. The missile with Multiple Independently Targeted Re-Entry Vehicle (MIRV) system, took off from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha, on May 9.
“The telemetry and tracking was carried out by multiple ground and ship-based stations. These systems tracked the entire missile trajectory from lift-off till the impact of all payloads. Flight data confirmed that all mission objectives were met during the trial,” according to an official statement.
In July last year, India conducted successive tests of short-range nuclear-capable ballistic missiles, the Prithvi-2 and Agni-1, after tensions with neighbouring Pakistan escalated after Operation Sindoor.
