Shahjahanpur (UP), May 31 (PTI) Two teenage boys drowned in the Ramganga river in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur after venturing into deep water while bathing, police said on Sunday.
The deceased, Sarvagya (15) and Utkarsh (16), were children of employees working at a sugar mill in the Rupapur area of neighbouring Hardoi district.
Superintendent of Police Saurabh Dixit said the incident took place under the Allahganj police station limits on Saturday when the two boys, along with a friend, had gone to the Ramganga river on a scooter.
Sarvagya and Utkarsh entered the river to bathe but were swept into deeper waters and started drowning, the police said.
Their companion, Kavya, raised an alarm and informed residents, who in turn alerted the police,
Dixit said.
Police immediately launched a search operation with the help of local divers, but the boys could not be traced. Subsequently, a team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) joined the rescue efforts.
The bodies of both teenagers were recovered from the river on Sunday morning, Dixit said, adding that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem. PTI COR CDN SMV APL
