The Delhi Police on Saturday, after removing activist Sonam Wangchuk from the Jantar Mantar protest site and shifting him to the hospital for medical care, appealed to the protesters to peacefully vacate the site “at the earliest”.
Early on Saturday, Delhi Police shifted climate activist Sonam Wangchuk to Safdarjung Hospital in the national capital amid protests and sloganeering by his supporters.
Wangchuk has been admitted to the emergency, and he is currently being examined by the treating doctors. He is conscious, and his vitals are stable, as per the sources.

What Delhi Police Said
In a statement issued after the move, the police said the action was taken in compliance
with a Delhi High Court order and in view of Wangchuk’s deteriorating health.
“As per orders of Hon’ble High Court and on expert medical advise due to the deteriorating health condition of Sonam Wangchuk, he has been shifted to the hospital for essential medical care…Police took maximum restrain and undertook the exercise safely. We request the protestors at Jantar Mantar to peacefully vacate the place at the earliest,” the Delhi police said in the statement.
Speaking on Wangchuk’s removal from the protest site, DCP New Delhi, Sachin Sharma said,”In compliance with the Honorable High Court’s order, and based on health conditions and medical advice, Mr Sonam Wangchuk has been moved from here to an appropriate government hospital for much-needed medical intervention and is currently under medical supervision,”
The development comes a day after senior IPS officer Anurag Kumar was appointed as Delhi’s Commissioner of Police, replacing Satish Golcha, who was prematurely removed from the post.
Meanwhile, the protesters were being removed from the Jantar Mantar protest site by the Delhi Police after Wangchuk was taken to the hospital by the police.
The action was taken by the Delhi Police two days after the hearing in the Delhi High Court on Wangchuk’s deteriorating health.
What the Delhi High Court Said
Two days earlier, the court had directed authorities to conduct daily clinical examinations of the climate activist, observing that “the life of any citizen is precious” and ordering regular medical monitoring along with any necessary medical intervention.
“We would like this person to be regularly medically checked by government doctors and intervene depending on the report of doctors if any medication is required. Every life is precious,” the court observed.

Activists of the satirical social media platform Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) have been protesting at Jantar Mantar for the past 29 days, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET paper leak.
Backing the CJP’s protest, Wangchuk began an indefinite hunger strike 21 days ago. His health has deteriorated significantly over the past few days.
Several Opposition leaders have visited Wangchuk at the protest site to express solidarity and urge him to end his fast in view of his worsening condition. Those who met him include Congress leader Pawan Khera, Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal.
Meanwhile, the protesters have announced a march to Parliament on July 20, the opening day of the Monsoon Session.
