Only 12 players who registered at a base price of Rs 1 crore have made it to the final list of the IPL 2026 auction. A lot of shopping at the auction is done at this base price, where players are usually
picked up for around Rs 3-5 crore, with franchises looking for high value among those just below the elite level.
Two of them are Indians — pacer Akash Deep and leg-spinner Rahul Chahar. Both players had indifferent IPL 2025 seasons, with the quick struggling after his injury comeback with Lucknow Super Giants, and Chahar was simply ineffective with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Alongside them, five were part of an IPL team last year: SRH’s Wiaan Mulder, Mumbai Indians (MI)’s Jonny Bairstow and Charith Asalanka, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)’s Quinton de Kock, and Rajasthan Royals (RR)’s Fazalhaq Farooqi.
Among these, some could be in huge demand. For example, KKR might be looking at getting de Kock or Bairstow back, while several teams would probably line up to get a player of Deep’s quality. Some teams might also be heavily interested in getting the likes of Josh Tongue, who’s excellent with his yorkers, or Farooqi, who’s a great exponent of new ball bowling.
