New Delhi, Jun 24 (PTI) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday held a high-level meeting to strengthen road safety in his constituency Kota-Bundi.
The meeting was held with representatives of ‘SaveLife Foundation’, an organisation working in the field of road safety. The primary objective was to effectively implement the “Zero Fatality District Programme” in the Kota-Bundi parliamentary constituency, minimising road accident deaths and working toward securing a long-term zero fatality rate.
An official statement said that during the meeting, Birla expressed deep concern over the lives lost in road mishaps, stating that the youth account for the highest number of casualties in road accidents.
This is not only an irreparable loss to families but
also a significant loss to the nation’s productive workforce.
He emphasised that road safety is not merely an administrative subject but a social responsibility that needs to be transformed into a mass movement.
Birla underlined that the goal is not just to reduce road accidents, but to develop the Kota-Bundi parliamentary constituency into an exemplary “Zero Fatality Model.” He added that with coordinated efforts, deaths caused by road accidents can be reduced by up to 70 per cent in the coming years, eventually bringing the number close to zero.
The meeting discussed a detailed study and data presented by the ‘SaveLife Foundation’.
Birla proposed that the existing Command and Control Centres in Kota should be optimally utilised to fortify the road safety framework.
Advocating for an Artificial Intelligence (AI) based surveillance mechanism, he stated that 24/7 monitoring must be ensured via CCTV cameras installed on major highways and vulnerable sites. PTI NAB NB NB
