New Delhi, Jul 27 (PTI) Rain lashed the national capital on Monday afternoon, bringing respite from the heat after maximum temperatures hovered several degrees above normal earlier in the day.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Ridge area recorded the maximum rainfall in the capital, 19.4 mm of precipitation at 5:30 pm. Lodhi Road received 11.5 mm, while Safdarjung — the city’s primary weather station — recorded 8.0 mm of rain.
Other parts of the capital also experienced light spells: Ayanagar logged 3.8 mm, Pusa 4 mm, Janakpuri 2 mm, and areas like Mayur Vihar, Narayana, and Najafgarh witnessed drizzles around 0.5 mm.
However, some localities, like Palam, Jafarpur, and Chhatarpur, remained completely dry during the same
period, between 2:30 pm and 5:30 pm.
Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 38.1 degrees Celsius, 3.2 degrees above the season’s average. Palam and Lodi Road both touched 37.2 degrees Celsius, while Ridge and Ayanagar recorded a high of 36.4 degrees Celsius.
Earlier in the day, Delhi woke up to a warm Monday morning with a minimum temperature of 28.6 degrees Celsius, 1.3 notches above normal, according to IMD. The Palam weather station recorded a minimum temperature of 26.8 degrees Celsius, Lodhi Road recorded 27.8 degrees Celsius, the Ridge recorded 24.8 degrees Celsius, and Ayanagar recorded 27.5 degrees Celsius.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported that light rain and light thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph were very likely over parts of Delhi on Monday night.
For Tuesday, IMD has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ with a generally cloudy sky and moderate rain.
Furthermore, the day is predicted to have light to moderate rainfall. Delhi’s 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 101, in the ‘moderate’ category, for the second day in a row, said the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
According to the CPCB, an AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 to 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 ‘poor’, 301 to 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 to 500 ‘severe’. PTI VBH ASD ASD
