A 13-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide at her residence in Delhi’s Shahdara after being scolded by her family for returning home late, police said on Saturday.
The incident took place in Krishna Nagar, where the girl was found unconscious on the floor of her home after her sister reportedly spotted her hanging and brought her down.
Following a PCR call, police reached the residence and rushed the girl to Dr Hedgewar Hospital. Doctors at the hospital declared her dead, police said.
According to the preliminary inquiry, the girl had returned home late and was scolded by her family members. Her sister later found her hanging and raised an alarm, after which she was brought down and taken to the hospital.
A neighbour, who said he works with the
girl’s sister, told reporters that the sister had tried contacting the girl while she was at work.
“While at work, her sister called her around 9.30 pm. Despite calling multiple times, she didn’t pick up, and hence she rushed home,” he said.
“She knocked multiple times, but then we broke down the door. Her sister found her hanging by a rope. She only cut the rope and got her body down,” he added.
Police said legal proceedings have been initiated in connection with the incident.
