Terming India’s historic World Cup triumph as a big opportunity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has advised Harmanpreet Kaur & Co. how they can use it to motivate the next generation. PM Modi on Tuesday
hosted the World Cup winners at his official residence in the national capital, celebrating their success.
He advised the cricketers to take some time out from their busy schedule to revisit the schools they studied at and spend some time with the kids there.
“I feel that all of you have the power to inspire others because you have achieved remarkable success,” PM Modi said. “When you return home, there will be celebrations and great joy – but take a moment to visit the school where you once studied. Sit there for a while and talk to the children. They will have many questions for you.”
“I believe your school will remember you, and those children will carry your words with them for the rest of their lives. Whenever you find the time, go back and meet the students and encourage them,” he added.
PM Modi also touched upon how the cricket team’s performance impacts the nation’s mood.
“You have done a great job. In India, cricket is not just a game. In a way, it has become the life of the people of India. If there is good happening in cricket, India feels good, and even if there is a little bit of wrong happening in cricket, the whole of India feels bad.”
The PM then went on to ask Player of the Tournament Deepti Sharma about her Lord Hanuman tattoo that has gone viral on social media.
“I believe in him more than I believe in myself. Whenever I am in a difficult situation, I take his name and I feel like I can overcome it. I have so much belief in him,” she responded.
“And you have written ‘Jai Shree Ram’ on your Instagram account (bio) as well?” Modi asked.
“Yes, I do,” the all-rounder replied.
