Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh have welcomed their second child, a baby girl, on September 19. As the couple begins life as parents of two, an old interview has resurfaced in which Deepika had spoken about her dream of having “three little kids” of her own.
The couple announced the arrival of their second child on Instagram with a simple card featuring a baby’s footprint. They are already parents to daughter Dua, whom they welcomed in September 2024.
Deepika Padukone once imagined having three children
Years before becoming a mother, Deepika had spoken about the kind of family she hoped to have. During a 2013 roundtable with Rajeev Masand, she was asked what she would be doing if she had not become an actor.
Deepika said she hoped to have children
while continuing to work, even imagining a busy home with three young kids.
“If I was not an actor, I don’t know what I would’ve been doing. But hopefully with some children around. Three little kids scuttling about. Hopefully, be working enough to take them to shoots, have a happy family. And at the same time, still doing what I’m doing.”
Her comment has now resurfaced after she and Ranveer welcomed their second child.
Ranveer Singh said having children was Deepika’s call
Ranveer had also spoken about starting a family soon after their marriage. At the India Economic Conclave, he was asked about having children and said Deepika would have the final say on the decision.
“It’s not my call really. Partly yes, it’s my call but mostly it’s just her and I allow her that. I allow her to make most of the decisions because she is better at everything. I have no qualms in admitting that she is a much more mature, much more evolved person than me.”
Years later, Deepika recalled a similar conversation with Ranveer while speaking to Marie Claire in 2025. She was discussing the pressure women face around deciding when to start a family when she remembered what her husband had told her.
“He was like, “It’s your body. Yes, it’s a together decision, but eventually it’s your body that’s going to go through it. So whenever you feel ready’.”
