Amid ex-Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s link-up rumours with pop star Katy Perry, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, the former wife of Justin Trudeau, shared a cryptic video message on Instagram reflecting on love, loss, and the importance of presence.
In the video, she asked, “Do you find that sometimes we forget that nothing we love was ever meant to be kept? The people, the places, even the moments that once felt, I don’t know, infinite, right?”
“Time asks us to not cling to them. And yet we do, I do, because to hold on feels safer than to let go. But love was never about possession. It was always about presence, the present moment,” she said.
She continued, “And when we release what we cannot keep, we make space for the truth of connection,
intimacy, the memory, you know, for the lesson, for the way a single smile can echo across a lifetime. Grief also lives there.”
“I’ve lost my dad in the past year, and I feel that with grief also comes grace. So maybe love’s deepest teaching is this, to stand open-hearted in the face of impermanence, to honor what has been, and to trust that letting go is also a form of keeping inside us where no loss can erase it in a way,” she said.
“So take a breath with me, place one hand on your chest just for a couple of seconds, and remember someone or something you’ve had to release, and feel how it still lives inside of you.”
“That is love’s endurance. That is what carries us forward,” she added.
A caption with her video message read, “Nothing we love is meant to be kept forever. People, places, moments — they’re all meant to be lived, not possessed.”
“The beauty is in the being there: in the shared laugh, the quiet glance, the heartbeat of a place before it changes,” she wrote.
“Connection isn’t something we hold — it’s something we feel while it’s here. That’s the real magic: presence. Let yourself love what’s here, without trying to make it stay,” she added.

The post comes amid renewed public attention on Justin Trudeau following his recent sightings with Katy Perry.
The duo was photographed looking cozy aboard a yacht off the coast of Santa Barbara on Saturday, October 11, sparking speculation about a possible relationship.
Rumours of a connection between the pair first surfaced in late July when they were spotted dining together at Le Violon in Montreal.
Perry’s appearance with Trudeau comes just months after her split from longtime fiance Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares a five-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom.
During her London concert on Monday, October 13, Perry appeared to allude to her rumoured relationship with Trudeau.
In a TikTok video from the show, she asked a fan holding a sign, “What does your sign say?” When the fan, Darren, replied, “I heard you’re single?” Perry grinned and quipped, “You heard I was single? That’s interesting,” sending the audience into laughter.
When Darren revealed a sign asking Perry to marry him, she jokingly shouted, “I couldn’t read that high up! Are you kidding me? Not today!”
She also added teasingly, “You know you really should have asked me about 48 hours ago,” seemingly referencing her weekend spent with Trudeau.
Trudeau separated from Sophie Gregoire in 2023 after 18 years of marriage.
The former couple shares three children.
