Kolkata, Sep 13 (PTI) The number of dengue cases in West Bengal crossed the 5,000-mark this year, with Murshidabad emerging as the worst-affected district, a health department bulletin said Sunday.
The data, collected up to September 11 from August 6, showed that 5,002 people had tested positive for the vector-borne disease in the state this year.
Of these, Murshidabad accounted for 1,072 cases, followed by Kolkata with more than 500, the data said.
North 24 Parganas reported 450 cases, Nadia more than 400, South 24 Parganas 366, Malda around 400, Howrah 325 and Hooghly 325 cases.
Purba Bardhaman registered 256 cases till September 11, Paschim Bardhaman 154, Purba Medinipur 126, Paschim Medinipur 104, and Jhargram 54 cases.
A total of 6,826 dengue
tests had been conducted, according to the bulletin.
The number of cases has more than doubled in about a month. The state had recorded 2,410 dengue cases as of August 6, while the figure rose to 5,002 by September 11. PTI SUS BDC
