The camaraderie between Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping was on full display as the three leaders met on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi.
PM Modi shared a series of photos from the summit, showing him with Putin, Xi and other leaders attending the gathering.
In one of the pictures, PM Modi was seen holding hands with Putin and Xi, in a moment reminiscent of their similar pose at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin in 2025.
The image from the BRICS Summit comes amid heightened global attention on the ties between India, Russia and China, with the three countries being key members of the grouping.
In his opening statement at the summit, PM Modi
said BRICS has established a distinct identity on the global stage and the grouping is not against anyone, remarks seen as a message to the US and other Western powers.
“Today, the Global South stands in the front row of global crises but in the back row of the decision-making process. We must transform this ‘pyramid of privilege’ into a ‘platform of partnership’ — one where every nation has a voice, every member has a stake, and the development of humanity lies at the heart of every effort,” PM Modi said.
