US billionaire Elon Musk on Monday sparked a fresh online debate after posting on X that the “Straits of Hormuz are named after Ahura Mazda from Zoroastrianism,” a claim that quickly drew wide reactions.

The Islamic Republic of Iran’s Consulate General in Mumbai responded directly to the post, saying: “History rewards careful reading: Start with #Persian civilisation & start with Strait of #Hormuz… not Strait’s.”

In a sharper follow-up, the consulate added: “A good start Elon, but you need more education.”

Musk’s post triggered a wave of responses from users debating the historical origins of the waterway’s name. Some users argued
