United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced a temporary pause on “Project Freedom,” while asserting that the blockade will remain fully in place as Washington continues peace talks with Iran.
He said the decision was taken following requests from Pakistan and other countries, and comes amid signs of progress in ongoing negotiations.
He further stated that negotiations with Iranian representatives have made “great progress” and moved closer to a “complete and final agreement”.

While announcing a pause in maritime operations, the US president made it clear that Iran will continue to face the blockade.
He also mentioned that the temporary pause
has been put in place to test the viability of diplomacy.
Taking to Truth Social, Trump said, “Based on the request of Pakistan and other Countries, the tremendous Military Success that we have had during the Campaign against the Country of Iran and, additionally, the fact that Great Progress has been made toward a Complete and Final Agreement with Representatives of Iran, we have mutually agreed that, while the Blockade will remain in full force and effect, Project Freedom (The Movement of Ships through the Strait of Hormuz) will be paused for a short period of time to see whether or not the Agreement can be finalized and signed. President DONALD J. TRUMP”.
What Is Project Freedom?
“Project Freedom” is a US military-backed initiative launched a day earlier to help stranded commercial ships safely exit the Strait of Hormuz.
The operation has been designed to help the ships belonging to different countries which are not directly involved in the conflict and have been stuck in the shipping corridor due to Middle East tensions.
Trump called these ships and their crews “neutral and innocent bystanders.”
In this initiative, the United States’ military will be guiding these stranded ships out of the restricted or high-risk waters to a safer place where they can resume normal operations.
The initiative has been framed as humanitarian, with the US president underlining that many ships are running low on food and essential supplies, which are required for large crews on board.

As per Trumo, the “Project Freedom” is a combination of maritime security and humanitarian assistance and is aimed at ensuring safe passage for stranded ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz continues to be a vital transit route for global oil shipments, meaning any change in military or maritime policy in the region can significantly impact energy markets worldwide. While the pause hints at a possible path toward de-escalation, the ongoing blockade indicates that underlying tensions remain unresolved.
