Magnus Carlsen had another little outburst on the chess circuit on Saturday (December 27). After losing to Vladislav Artemiev in the seventh round of the ongoing World Rapid and Blitz Championships, the Norwegian was seen shoving aside a cameraperson pursuing him to record his reaction.
As soon as the match got over, Carlsen was seen shaking his opponent’s hands, grabbing his blazer, and teeing off furiously. The FIDE cameraperson walked with him for a bit, only to see Carlsen turn towards him and slap the camera away, although it didn’t stop the former from following the chess great.

Artemiev surged into sole leadership in the competition after seven rounds. The Russian grandmaster moved to 6.5 points, opening up a narrow lead with six rounds still to be played.
A tightly packed chasing group of 12 players followed half a point behind on 5.5 points. The group included Indian stars D. Gukesh and Nihal Sarin, both remaining firmly in contention as the tournament entered its decisive phase.
Several players were close behind on five points, including Arjun Erigaisi, H. Goutham Krishna, Aravindh Chithambaram, R. Praggnanandhaa and S.L. Narayanan, among others.
In the women’s section, defending champion Koneru Humpy and World Cup winner Divya Deshmukh were part of an eight-player lead after six rounds. Humpy registered a win over Russia’s Yana Zhapova with the black pieces, while Divya overcame former world champion Antoaneta Stefanova of Bulgaria.
They were joined at the top on five points by Nino Batsiashvili, Aleksandra Goryachkina, Zhu Jiner, Mariya Muzychuk, Lei Tingjie and Sarasadat Khademalsharieh.
With five rounds remaining, D. Harika was placed on 4.5 points alongside seven others after drawing her sixth-round game against Georgia’s Meri Arabidze. R. Vaishali, Padmini Rout, B. Savitha Shri and Rakshitta Ravi were further back on four points each.
