Tamil actor and racing enthusiast Ajith Kumar has opened up about the sacrifices he has made for his passion for motorsports. Speaking from Barcelona, Spain, where he took part in a 24-hour endurance race through Ajith Kumar Racing, Ajith admitted that his love for racing has often kept him away from home.
The actor said that missing time with his children, Anoushka and Aadvik, is one of the hardest parts of his career. While he chases his dreams on the track, his wife Shalini manages the household and takes care of the kids. Ajith acknowledged that this balancing act has not been easy for any of them.
“The Children Hardly Get to See Me”
Ajith admitted that racing has required difficult compromises, particularly time with his children Anoushka
and Aadvik. He expressed deep gratitude to Shalini for managing the household while he chased his sporting dreams.
“There are so many things that Shalini is handling. If not for her support, I wouldn’t be able to do all this. Looking after the home, the children, when I am away, it is not just a sacrifice on my side. The children hardly get to see me, and I miss them as much as they miss me. These are the things that are never seen or understood. But when you love something so dearly, you have to make your sacrifices.”
Shalini’s Role in His Racing Years
Reflecting on their marriage in 2002, Ajith recalled that Shalini had always stood by him in his motorsport journey. She accompanied him to several races in the early years but later stepped back to focus on raising their children. Ajith said her constant support has been central to balancing his dual careers in cinema and racing.
On His Children’s Future
The actor-racer also spoke about not wanting to impose his career choices on his children. He noted that his son Aadvik has taken a casual interest in go-karting but clarified that he would leave the decision entirely to him.
“My son loves it too – he’s started go-karting, but not on a serious level yet. I’ll give him time to decide if he really wants to pursue it. Be it films or racing, I would not want to force my views on them. I want them to come on their own and support them in every way possible.”
Ajith and Shalini’s love story
Ajith and Shalini first met on the sets of the 1999 film Amarkalam. Their relationship blossomed, leading to marriage in 2000. Shalini, who had already made her mark as both a child artist and leading lady in Tamil cinema, stepped away from films after marriage to devote herself to family life.
Ajith, meanwhile, continues to balance cinema and racing. He was last seen on screen in Vidaamuyarchi and Good Bad Ugly earlier this year, while his next projects are yet to be officially announced.
