The Gujarat Giants have officially cracked the Delhi Capitals code — not once, but twice.
In a nerve-shredding finish, GG edged DC by three runs, becoming the first team to complete a double over Delhi Capitals in a single WPL season and surging back into second place on the points table.
Just like their four-run win earlier in the campaign, this one came down to icy nerves, smart bowling, and holding on when it mattered most.
Batting first, the Giants put together a composed yet clinical 174 for 9, built around another assured knock from Beth Mooney. The skipper anchored the innings with a measured 58 off 46, absorbing early pressure after Sophie Devine fell cheaply. Mooney found a perfect ally in Anushka Sharma, who injected momentum with a brisk
39 off 25, the pair adding 54 for the second wicket.
Delhi hit back through left-arm spinner Shree Charani, who ripped through the middle order with an impressive 4 for 31, removing big names including Ashleigh Gardner and Georgia Wareham.
Gujarat briefly wobbled at 131 for 5, but a late flourish from Tanuja Kanwer (21 off 11) ensured the total comfortably crossed the 170 mark.
The chase followed a familiar Delhi Capitals script — promising start, middle-order stutter, late surge.
Shafali Verma began brightly before falling early, and while several DC batters showed intent, none truly seized control. Sophie Devine continued her personal vendetta, dismissing Lee for the 11th time in T20s and also removing Jemimah Rodrigues yet again.
Just when the game appeared to slip away, Niki Prasad (47) and Sneh Rana (29) lit up the contest with a thrilling seventh-wicket stand of 70, the joint-highest for that wicket or lower in WPL history.
Suddenly, the equation tightened, and the crowd sensed a heist.
But GG had been here before. Despite conceding 23 runs in the 17th over, Devine finished with four wickets, and the Giants held their nerve in the final exchanges to seal another heart-stopper.
