India may return home from the Sri Lanka tour with a 1-0 series triumph, but they will be disappointed at not having been able to record a clean sweep despite enforcing the follow-on. Sonal Dinusha became the star of the second and final Test in Colombo that concluded with a draw on Thursday.
Dinusha became the first Sri Lankan batter since 1997 to score a century in each innings of a Test match as the hosts denied India at the Sinhalese Sports Club.
Sri Lanka, after being bowled out for 290 in their first innings in reply to India’s first innings total of 503/9 declared, produced a vastly improved show with the bat in the second dig. They made 429/9 declared with Dinusha following up his first innings’ 103 off 162 with 133* off 264 to ensure
a draw.
A win would have given India 12 points and further improved their points percentage (PCT) to 63.33 and moved up to the fourth spot in the ICC World Test Championship points table. However, India and Sri Lanka each pocketed four points after the Colombo draw.
With that, India’s PCT dropped from 53.33 to 51.51, but they remain static at the fifth spot on the WTC table.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka’s PCT remained unchanged at 33.33, as did their sixth position among the 9 contenders aiming to make it to the WTC final.

Australia, South Africa Ahead In WTC Final Race
Australia’s brutal comeback in the recent 2nd Test against Bangladesh that resulted in a big win helped them improve their PCT to 80 and consolidate their position at the top of the table. Reigning champions South Africa played a Test series in November 2025 and remain second with a PCT of 75. Inaugural winners New Zealand are currently third, followed by Bangladesh.
What Next For India?
India will switch to white-ball mode and will next play a Test in the middle of November during the New Zealand tour. They have now seven Tests remaining in the ongoing cycle, including two against New Zealand and five against Australia at home.
What Next For Sri Lanka?
Like India, Sri Lanka too will play their next Test in November during a two-match series in Pakistan. They have four Tests remaining – two each against Pakistan and New Zealand.
