At least two people were injured in a shooting incident at the Westfield Valley Fair Mall in San Jose in California on Black Friday. San José Police confirmed the incident on X, stating the injured people have
been shifted to hospital for treatment.
“Units are currently investigating a shooting at Valley Fair Mall in West San Jose. Two victims were located and have been transported to a local hospital with gunshot wounds,” San José Police Media Relations posted on X.
It further asked locals to avoid till the police ensure everyone’s safety. “Please avoid the area while officers investigate and work to ensure everyone’s safety,” the post further read.

Police later clarified that the incident was isolated and not an active shooter situation, noting that officers evacuated and cleared the mall to confirm there was no ongoing threat to public safety.
“This shooting appears to be an isolated incident and NOT an active shooter. However, officers are evacuating and clearing the mall to confirm there is no ongoing threat to public safety. Please continue to avoid the area,” cops said.
Despite this, several witnesses posted videos and messages on social media describing what they believed was an active shooter scenario. The mall was placed on lockdown as officers continued clearing the building. One witness wrote, “Active shooter at westfield valley fair. We are in lockdown with my kids at westfield valley fair, hiding in a storage room. I can hear people screaming outside. Pray.”
Another said, “Shooting at valley fair San Jose. Bro I was inside and heard 15 shots go off. They cleared the mall.” Others also reported hiding inside stores while police responded.
Authorities have not yet released any details about the suspect.
