How many times do you have to win before a trophy simply runs out of space?
Well, Bayern Munich might just have the answer.
The Bundesliga champions will receive a modified version of the league trophy on the final matchday (May 16) after their clash with 1. FC Köln — not because of a redesign, but because the original quite literally ran out of room.
No Space Left on the Plate
The iconic Bundesliga Meisterschale, that unmistakable silver shield, had no space left to engrave new champions. So, the DFL had to step in.
A larger outer ring has been added to the trophy, increasing its engraving capacity and ensuring space for future winners.
The updated version now features five silver bands on the outer ring, up from the previous three — a version last
seen during Bayer Leverkusen’s historic 2023–24 triumph and Bayern’s subsequent 2024–25 title.
The intricate upgrade was carried out by Koch & Bergfeld, a renowned German silver manufacturer, and is expected to accommodate the next 30 years of Bundesliga champions.
Not The First Upgrade
This isn’t the first time the Meisterschale has needed a little extra breathing room.
Back in 1981, a silver ring and five gold-set tourmaline cabochons were added. Then, in 2009, five larger engraving plates were introduced, a fix that has lasted until now.
The trophy also preserves some unique quirks of German football history. There’s a double engraving for 1922 (shared by 1. FC Nürnberg and Hamburger SV), and even a deliberate gap for 1904, when the championship was abandoned.
All of that history is set to be carefully retained in the new design too.
Eyes on Yet Another Title
Of course, Bayern aren’t just rewriting history off the pitch.
They’re closing in on yet another Bundesliga crown — what would be their 13th title in 14 years — while also pushing for a potential treble.
With a 2-1 lead over Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals and a German Cup semifinal against Bayer Leverkusen on the horizon, the Bavarians show no signs of slowing down.
