Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday addressed the students of Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) and hailed the 100-year legacy of the college.
The Prime Minister recalled the college’s journey from a small institution in Daryaganj to a leading centre of learning. He said, “From a small place in Daryaganj, this college began its journey. Today, that small college has grown into banyan tree—a tree that has provided shade to and enriched several generations.”
PM Modi also praised the college’s alumni, saying, “SRCC’s alumni have also been very special. If I put it in your language, the alumni here are the OGs.” The Prime Minister was addressing the gathering as SRCC marked 100 years since its establishment in 1926.
He said SRCC graduates had
made their mark not only in economics and business but also in areas including art, law, leadership and the judiciary.
Recalling his association with former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who was an SRCC alumnus, PM Modi said Jaitley would often share stories from his college days during their meetings. “Perhaps there was hardly a meeting between us where he did not recount some incident from his SRCC days,” PM Modi said.
He also mentioned Sanjeev Sanyal, who studied at SRCC and is now part of his team.
PM Modi Recalls His 2013 SRCC Speech
PM Modi also referred to his much-discussed 2013 address at SRCC, saying there had been considerable discussion around the speech in the days leading up to the centenary event.
“People have listened to it again and read it again. It is possible that members of the new generation have also revisited it,” he said.
