Prabhas’ much-delayed big release of the year, The Raja Saab, hit theatres last Friday amid high expectations. Directed by Maruthi, the horror-comedy opened to mixed reviews from critics but still managed
to secure a strong opening day at the box office. However, the initial buzz has failed to translate into sustained momentum, with collections witnessing a steady decline over the past few days.
Despite the presence of a star like Prabhas and a sizeable opening, the film’s downward trend has become increasingly evident, especially with its latest box office numbers.
Sharp Dip in Collections on Monday
According to the latest figures reported by Sacnilk, The Raja Saab collected ₹5.4 crore on Day 4, marking its lowest single-day earnings so far. The Monday drop is significantly lower compared to its weekend performance and has raised concerns about the film’s theatrical prospects.
On its opening day, The Raja Saab recorded an impressive ₹53.75 crore. However, the collections dipped sharply on Saturday, with the film earning ₹26 crore. The downward slide continued on Sunday, which saw a further drop to ₹19.1 crore. With Monday’s numbers added, the total box office collection of the film now stands at approximately ₹113.4 crore.
Trade analysts note that weekday performance is crucial in determining whether a film can stabilise after the initial weekend rush. Unfortunately for The Raja Saab, the sharp fall on Monday suggests that the film may struggle to recover unless there is a significant turnaround in audience interest.
The Raja Saab opened to mixed-to-negative reviews, with several critics pointing out issues with the screenplay and underwhelming performances. While the film attempted to blend horror and comedy, the execution reportedly failed to resonate with a section of the audience.
Adding to the film’s troubles, The Raja Saab was leaked online a day after its theatrical release. Following the leak, the cybercrime police in Hyderabad initiated action against pirate platforms to curb the illegal circulation of the film.
With a reported budget of around ₹400 crore, the pressure is mounting on the makers to improve the film’s box office performance in the coming days. In an effort to address audience feedback, the makers held a press conference in Hyderabad on Saturday. During the interaction, they announced that new scenes featuring Prabhas in an older look have been added to the film.
