Namibia will be looking to shrug off their disappointing start to the T20 World Cup when they take on the USA in Chennai on Sunday. The Namibians have been able to shake up their opponents, but they have not been able to convert key moments into a victory in the tournament.
Gerhard Erasmus’ side will be hoping to secure their first win in the T20 World Cup 2026, but the USA may prove to be formidable opponents. The Americans gave India a momentary scare in the first game alone. However, Suryakumar Yadav’s unbeaten 84 off 49 deliveries ensured that the encounter went in India’s favour. In the game against Pakistan, USA were unable to stand against the magic of spinner Usman Tariq and fell short of the target by 23 runs.
After suffering two consecutive
losses, the Monank Patel-led squad got into the groove of the sporting event and beat the Netherlands by a huge margin.
Team USA will be more familiar with the conditions at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, as they thrashed the Dutch side by 93 runs on Thursday night. Not just that, with batters like Patel and Saiteja Mukkamalla, the US side could easily make the encounter a high-scoring fixture. It will be up to Erasmus and his side to restrict the Americans to a low score. Not just that, their batters will have to brave the onslaught of Harmeet Singh and Co. when they bat. Singh was crucial in the fixture against the Netherlands and picked up four wickets.
For Namibia, Chennai will provide a chance to finally defeat the US and move away from the bottom of the Group A table. In the previous two clashes between the sides, the American side walked away victorious.
