For many homebuyers, choosing a bigger apartment seems like the obvious decision. But a Bengaluru man has shared why he spent Rs 80 lakh on a 1BHK apartment instead of buying a larger home, saying the decision had little to do with investment or resale value. His emotional post about growing up in rented houses and finally owning a place of his own has struck a chord with many people online.
The man shared his story on Reddit, where he explained that buying the apartment was the fulfilment of a childhood dream rather than a financial calculation. His post has since sparked a discussion on whether buying a home should always be based on practical considerations or personal happiness.
He Shared Why He Chose A 1BHK
In his Reddit post, the Bengaluru
resident said he had spent nearly three months searching for a property before deciding to buy a 1BHK at Prestige Song of the South for Rs 80 lakh. “After three months of intense property hunting, I have finally decided to buy a 1 BHK in Prestige Song of the South. I am not optimising for returns. This purchase is completely emotional,” he wrote.
Explaining his decision, he said he grew up in rented homes and never experienced the feeling of living in a house his family owned. Because of that, owning even a small apartment means much more to him than simply purchasing property. He also described how he imagined the home he always wanted.
“So, this is not just another real estate investment; it is the home I have imagined since I was a kid,” he wrote. He pictured a home with “a massive TV, a proper home theatre, books everywhere, a hammock, a coffee corner, an absurdly comfortable sofa” and, most importantly, a place he could truly call his own.
The Reddit user acknowledged that many people would consider a 2BHK or 3BHK to be a wiser purchase. However, he said he is currently single and hopes to buy a larger family home in the future with his wife rather than making that decision alone today.
“I would rather buy a family home together with the person I am building that family with than sink everything into a bigger house today and hope life goes according to plan,” he added.
