Indore, August 11 (PTI) The Madhya Pradesh government will soon ban analogue paneer in the state in view of the health risks it poses, minister Narendra Shivaji Patel said on Tuesday.
“We are going to ban analogue paneer as soon as possible so that the health of the citizens of our state remains good,” the state Public Health Minister said.
Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Gujarat have recently banned analogue paneer, he said.
The state government is concerned that after the neighbouring states banned analogue paneer, it may start being sent to Madhya Pradesh for consumption, according to him.
“Once we also impose a ban, analogue paneer will definitely not be able to be brought to Madhya Pradesh,” Patel added.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority
of India (FSSAI) has clear instructions that analogue paneer be sold separately and with proper information, but it is generally not done, the minister said.
Ordinary consumers are unaware of the difference between real paneer and analogue paneer, he said.
“The adverse effect of this is that analogue paneer is being consumed in place of real paneer,” he added.
Patel claimed that various vegetable oils and other products are used to make analogue paneer, which have adverse effects on the human body.
Analogue paneer is an alternative to traditional dairy-based paneer in which milk components are partially or completely replaced with non-dairy ingredients, such as vegetable fats or proteins, and other products. PTI HWP MAS NP
