The Indian women’s cricket team was fined 10 per cent of its match fee on Tuesday for maintaining a slow over-rate against Australia in the third ODI held in New Delhi.
Despite Smriti Mandhana’s brilliant 125-run performance, the hosts India faced a 43-run defeat, losing the series 1-2 to Australia at the Feroz Shah Kotla on Saturday.
GS Lakshmi from the ICC International Panel of Match Referees imposed the penalty as India was found to be two overs short of the target after accounting for time allowances.
According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which addresses minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for each over their side fails to bowl within the allotted
time, the ICC stated.
India captain Harmanpreet Kaur admitted to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, making a formal hearing unnecessary, the statement added.
The charge was brought by on-field umpires Lauren Agenbag and Janani Narayanan, third umpire Gayathri Venugopalan, and fourth umpire Vrinda Rathi.
