The trailer of Kaantha, starring Dulquer Salmaan, Samuthirakani, and Bhagyashri Borse, has arrived, leaving fans excited for a tense and layered drama rooted in the world of cinema. Directed by Selvamani
Selvaraj and jointly produced by Dulquer and Rana Daggubati under Wayfarer Films and Spirit Media, the film is set in 1950s Madras and charts the complex relationship between a celebrated actor and the filmmaker who shaped his stardom.
Dulquer shared the Tamil and Telugu trailers across his social media platforms with the caption, “The world of Kaantha unfolds today!”, hinting at the film’s larger-than-life narrative. The actor plays Chandran — popularly hailed as the ‘King of Acting’ — who rises to fame under director Ayya, played by Samuthirakani.
Clash Between Mentor and Protégé Escalates
The story of Kaantha revolves around the dynamic between Chandran and Ayya — a relationship that begins in admiration but spirals into rivalry. As fame and ego take center stage, Chandran attempts to assert control over Ayya’s artistic vision, renaming a female-centric project titled Shaantha to Kaantha. The disagreement intensifies, leading to emotional and physical confrontations, as glimpsed in the trailer.
The film teases psychological drama, power play, and the darker side of ambition, making the clash a central emotional anchor. This mentor-protégé fall-out appears poised to be one of the film’s strongest narrative hooks.
Release Date, Cast & Music Details
First announced in July 2023, Kaantha features Spanish cinematographer Dani Sanchez-Lopez, known for his work on Dulquer’s acclaimed Mahanati. Music is composed by Jhanu Chanthar, with already-released tracks such as Panimalare, Kanmani Nee, and Rage of Kaantha building momentum among fans.
Kaantha is set to hit theatres on November 14, releasing in Tamil with dubbed versions in Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. The film was initially slated for a September release but was pushed to accommodate the successful theatrical run of Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra, which Dulquer also produced and which became the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time.
