If there were still doubters, Kimi Antonelli just silenced them… emphatically.
At just 19, the Mercedes prodigy stormed to his third consecutive Grand Prix win at the Miami Grand Prix, continuing a start to the season that’s gone from promising to downright historic.
From Promise To Pure Dominance
Antonelli impressed in his rookie campaign, but what he’s doing now? Nobody saw this coming.
After being publicly questioned by Charles Leclerc over his wheel-to-wheel ability, Antonelli responded the only way that matters: on track.
The Italian went toe-to-toe with both Leclerc and a resurgent Lando Norris, who eventually finished second.
Leclerc’s race, meanwhile, unravelled. A 20-second penalty for exceeding track limits dropped him from sixth to eighth,
a bitter twist after the pre-race remarks.
It wasn’t a smooth Sunday for Antonelli either.
A messy start forced him off into the run-off area, while mid-race gearbox concerns threatened to derail his charge. But where others might panic, he stayed ice-cold, managing the chaos like a seasoned champion.
Writing His Name into F1 History
And here’s where it gets serious.
Antonelli is now:
- The youngest pole sitter in F1 history
- The youngest championship leader
- One of only three drivers — alongside Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher — to take his first three poles consecutively
But, here’s the real cherry on top? Antonelli is the first driver ever to win his first three races from pole position. That is the stuff of legends.
Mercedes in Control
Antonelli’s surge has also powered Mercedes to a perfect start. The team, led by Toto Wolff, has now won all four races this season, with teammate George Russell contributing one victory.
Russell’s P4 in Miami means Antonelli now leads the Drivers’ Championship by 20 points.
Despite the hype, Antonelli isn’t getting carried away.
“This is just the beginning; the road is still long,” he said. “I’m going to enjoy this one and then get back to work.”
Next stop: Canada.
