Amrita Rao has been a beloved name in Bollywood, remembered fondly for her performances in films like Main Hoon Na and the cult family drama Vivah. Recently, the actress opened up about the unusual and often
unsettling attention she received after Vivah became a massive hit.
Unusual Fan Attention After Vivah
In a chat with Ranveer Allahbadia, Amrita shared that the movie’s success brought her unexpected fan proposals, particularly from NRIs. “After Vivah, I used to get NRI proposals with family photos, people standing next to their car and dog, saying ‘mujhse shaadi karlo.’ And not just one or two… I got many!” she recalled. However, things took a darker turn when one admirer went too far. “Once, I received a letter written in blood, and that was very scary,” Amrita revealed, adding that a man even loitered outside her home at a telephone booth, forcing her parents to intervene.
A Struggle Behind The Spotlight
While the success of Vivah cemented her place in Bollywood, Amrita admitted she faced her own professional struggles during this period. “I met my husband (RJ Anmol) when I was at a very critical point in my life. Even with all the superhit films and love from the audience, I felt stuck. The kind of films I wanted weren’t coming to me,” she said. She explained that many big offers came with conditions she wasn’t comfortable with, such as kissing scenes. Choosing to stay true to her principles, she opted to step back from the glamour circuit, avoiding parties, award shows, and media appearances.
Finding Balance In Personal Life
Amrita eventually found her anchor in RJ Anmol. After dating for seven years, the two tied the knot in a private ceremony on May 15, 2016. They welcomed their son, Veer, in November 2020. Professionally, Amrita is back on screen with Jolly LLB 3, where she reprises her role as Sandhya, the supportive wife of Arshad Warsi’s character.
From blood-written letters to fan frenzy and her eventual retreat into a private, family-focused life, Amrita’s journey is a reminder of both the highs and challenges of stardom.
