After Ryan Ten Doeschate, BCCI Parts Ways With Another Indian Coach

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will not renew fielding coach T Dilip’s contract, secretary Devajit Saikia said on Tuesday (July 28). Dilip will join Ryan ten Doeschate in losing his men’s cricket contract. The official told news agency PTI that the board was in talks with a couple of names to take over the job, starting with the two-Test series against Sri Lanka next month.

Both ten Doeschate’s and Dilip’s contracts expired after India’s tour of the UK, where they lost all three white-ball series, with a cumulative scoreline of 8-1 in favor of Ireland and England. Ten Doeschate, a close aide to head coach Gautam Gambhir, was reportedly offered a contract extension but denied it, instead re-joining Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

in the IPL.

Ten Doeschate and Dilip shared an unusual dynamic. The former joined the support staff alongside Gambhir, Abhishek Nayar and Morne Morkel after working with them at KKR, even though India already had Dilip as their fielding coach. As a result, ten Doeschate often became Gambhir’s public face, addressing the media while also contributing to the team’s broader coaching discussions.

According to an earlier PTI report, ten Doeschate had been assured he would eventually succeed Dilip as India’s fielding coach. However, that transition never materialised.

A return to KKR would be a natural fit for ten Doeschate. He was part of the franchise’s IPL-winning campaigns in 2012 and 2014 as a player, and served as fielding coach during their 2024 title-winning season. He would also reunite with Abhishek Nayar, now KKR’s head coach.

Dilip’s future is still unclear. But India are in desperate need of an option, with just over a year left for the 2027 World Cup. The team was poor in the field throughout the Ireland, England and even the recent series against Zimbabwe under a new coaching set-up.
