The Eiffel Tower, built in 1889, stands at 324 metres and used to be the tallest man-made structure in the world before the construction of many skyscrapers which have overtaken its height because of improved techniques of architecture and engineering.
Despite this tremendous development, there is still no structure in India, which exceeds the height of the Eiffel Tower. The tallest structures in India are found in Mumbai; their heights do not exceed 320 metres.
Across the globe, many structures have emerged to surpass this famous one in height.
1. The Burj Khalifa, Dubai towers 828 metres above the ground and currently is the tallest building in the world.
2. The Merdeka 118, Kuala Lumpur is one of the tallest buildings that has recently emerged,
standing at 679 metres.
3. The Shanghai Tower, China has a height of 632 metres.
4. Makkah Royal Clock Tower, Saudi Arabia reaches an altitude of approximately 601 meters and is the tallest structure surrounding the Grand Mosque.
5. Ping a Finance Center, Shenzhen climbs up to an elevation of about 599 meters and functions as a center for finance.
6. Lotte World Tower, Seoul measures 555 meters tall and contains several floors used for observation and mixed purposes.
7. World Trade Center, New York has an elevation of 541 meters and is the tallest building in America.
8. Guangzhou CTF Finance Centre, China towers at around 530 meters and is situated amidst several other supertall buildings.
9. Tianjin CTF Finance Centre, China reaches approximately 530 meters in height and contains several uses.
10. CITIC Tower, Beijing reaches an approximate altitude of 528 meters and is one of China’s tallest buildings.
However, when considering Indian tallest structures, Palais Royale located in Mumbai is estimated to have a final height of approximately 320 meters, while Lokhandwala Minerva is set at 301 meters.
Therefore, up to 2026, there will be no structures built in India taller than the Eiffel Tower.
The skyscrapers in India have mainly been concentrated on luxurious residential structures and not tall buildings. They are mostly clustered in Mumbai owing to limited land and the need for high-quality real estate.
However, as other cities keep developing taller than 500 meters, India is yet to match that feat. Nevertheless, in the near future, it might close the gap, but currently, the Eiffel Tower stands taller than all the other buildings.
