Suman Kalyanpur’s Death

Known for lending her vocals to several timeless classics, Suman Kalyanpur died on Sunday evening at her residence in Mumbai. She was 89.

Confirming the news to PTI, Mangala Khadilkar, author of the acclaimed Marathi biography Suman Sugandh, said, “Suman ji passed away at around 8 pm at her residence in Lokhandwala due to old age. She passed away peacefully. For the last few days she was listening to her own songs.”

Suman Kalyanpur was one of Hindi cinema’s most celebrated playback singers, admired for her versatility, distinctive voice, and ability to effortlessly adapt to a wide range of musical styles. Over the course of her illustrious career, she delivered several memorable songs that continue to be cherished by generations of listeners.

Suman Kalyanpur rose to fame in the 1960s and 1970s, becoming one of the most admired voices of her generation. Despite working in an era dominated by some of Indian cinema’s biggest playback singers, she established a unique identity for herself and won the affection of audiences with her soulful and versatile singing.
