Meerut, Sep 11 (PTI) A 24-year-old man was shot dead allegedly by six unidentified assailants riding two motorcycles here on Friday evening, with police suspecting a dispute among youths as the reason behind the killing.
Senior Superintendent of Police BBGTS Murthy told PTI that Hastinapur police rushed to the spot after receiving information that Nitin Nagar had been shot and admitted him to a hospital, where he died during treatment.
Police said Nitin, a resident of Makhan Nagar village under Bahsuma police station, was returning home on a motorcycle with a friend when the attack took place.
Nitin was preparing for recruitment in the Delhi Police and regularly came to Hastinapur for running, police said.
According to residents, the two reached
near the Government Girls Inter College around 6.30 pm when six youths riding two motorcycles arrived from behind and opened fire at Nitin.
Nitin fell on the road after being shot and also sustained a bullet injury to his leg. The attackers fled the spot.
Police took him to the Hastinapur community health centre, from where he was referred to the district hospital in a critical condition. He died during treatment due to excessive blood loss, police said.
Police inspected the crime scene and started examining footage from CCTV cameras installed in the area.
The exact number of bullets that hit Nitin will be confirmed after the postmortem examination, police said. PTI COR KIS APL
