US President Donald Trump on Monday said Iranian representatives had reached out following the failure of Pakistan-mediated talks on the weekend, claiming that Tehran is now keen to return to negotiations for a peace deal.
Speaking to reporters outside the Oval Office, Trump said Washington had been contacted by the other side after the Islamabad discussions ended without agreement.
“I can tell you that we’ve been called by the other side. They’d like to make a deal. Very badly, very badly,” Trump told reporters, without identifying which officials had called.

He added that US team involved in the negotiations had played a strong role in the discussions. “Vance, Witkoff and Kushner did a great job,” Trump said, referring to Vice President JD Vance, envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner.

Trump stressed that the core issue remains Iran’s nuclear programme, reiterating that Tehran must not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.
“Iran will not have a nuclear weapon, and we agreed to a lot of things, but they didn’t agree to that… If they don’t agree, there’s no deal. There’ll never be a deal. Iran will not have a nuclear weapon,” he said.
Additionally, when asked by reporters whether a deal would be reached with Iran before the end of the two-week ceasefire, Trump said it would not be “pleasant” for Tehran if no agreement is reached, without elaborating further.
