There are some losses that feel oddly personal even from afar, especially when an actor has quietly been part of so many everyday screens over the years. According to reports, Patrick Muldoon passed away on Sunday morning (April 19) after suffering a heart attack. He was 57.
Born in San Pedro, California, Muldoon’s journey into entertainment began alongside a strong academic and athletic background. He studied at the University of Southern California, where he was also part of the Trojans football team. Even before formally stepping into acting full-time, he made his early screen appearance with a two-episode role on the sitcom Who’s the Boss? during his college years.
After graduating in 1991, his career quickly picked up pace. He went on to
appear in the popular teen series Saved By the Bell, marking the beginning of a steady presence on television.
Over time, Muldoon built a versatile portfolio across both television and film. His work included appearances in projects such as Melrose Place, Super Troopers, and Saving Christmas, reflecting a career that moved comfortably between drama, comedy, and mainstream entertainment.
However, his most widely recognised role came through the long-running soap opera Days of Our Lives, where he played Austin Reed. He first portrayed the character from 1992 to 1995, and later returned to the role between 2011 and 2012, a comeback that was warmly received by fans of the show.
Alongside acting, Muldoon also expanded into production work. He served as executive producer on several films, including The Tribes of Palos Verdes, Marlowe, Arkansas, The Dreadful, and The Card Counter. His upcoming project Dirty Hands was also slated for release later this year.
Beyond the screen, he was deeply connected to music. He often performed with his guitar and was the lead singer of the band The Sleeping Masses, showing another creative side of his artistic life.
He is survived by his partner Miriam Rothbart, his parents Deanna and Patrick Muldoon Sr, and his sister Shana Zappa along with her husband Ahmet Zappa. His family also includes his niece Halo and nephew Arrow Zappa.
May his soul rest in peace!
