The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) challenged the Madras High Court order that directed it to issue a UA certificate to Vijay’s Jana Nayagan. The board also sought an urgent hearing and requested that a revising committee review the film.
Following a fresh hearing, the court has now ordered no release for Jana Nayagan until January 21.
This comes after the Madras High Court, on Friday, instructed the CBFC to issue the certificate once the required modifications were made. The court had criticised the board for entertaining complaints against the film, describing it as a “dangerous trend.”
The CBFC also argued that the film features emblems related to the armed forces, claiming to be examined by experts.
Earlier, on Wednesday, the film’s
production house issued a statement announcing the postponement of the release.
The note read, “It is with a heavy heart that we share this update with our valued stakeholders and audiences. The release of Jana Nayagan, eagerly awaited on 9 January, has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances beyond our control.”
“We deeply understand the anticipation, excitement, and emotions surrounding this film, and this decision has not been an easy one for any of us. The new release date will be announced at the earliest. Until then, we humbly request your patience and continued love. Your unwavering support is our greatest strength and means everything to the entire Jana Nayagan team,” it added.
Jana Nayagan marks Vijay’s final film before he fully enters politics.
