Drishyam 3 continues its phenomenal run at the box office, emerging as one of the biggest Malayalam hits of the year. Headlined by Mohanlal, the family thriller has maintained a strong upward trend since its grand release on May 21, which also coincided with the superstar’s birthday celebrations. The film collected an impressive Rs 13.7 crore on Day 3 alone, taking its total domestic net collection to Rs 40.60 crore. The film has also achieved a massive milestone globally, crossing the Rs 100 crore mark within just three days of release.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 13.7 crore on Day 3, taking its domestic net collection to Rs 40.60 crore. Its worldwide gross now stands at Rs 117.17 crore. On May 23, Drishyam 3 recorded
an overall occupancy of 50.2% across 5,185 shows. The Malayalam version registered an impressive 66.52% occupancy, with morning shows at 48.50%, afternoon shows at 69.42%, evening shows at 75.42%, and night shows at 72.75%. The highest occupancy was recorded in Kochi, with 88.3% across 238 shows.
Mohanlal also took to his Instagram handle and thanked fans for showering love on the film, “Thank you for carrying this journey with us for 13 years. Your love, support, and belief in this story continue to humble us every day. #Drishyam3 running successfully in theatres near you.” Fans reacted with heart emojis. One of the fans wrote, “Wow superb Congratulations Lalettan&Drishyam 3team.”
Reportedly, Mohanlal has charged a whopping Rs 20 crore to reprise his role as Georgekutty. This is a huge hike compared to the salary he was paid for the previous instalments. He earned around Rs 5-6 crore for the first part and Rs 10-12 crore for the second. Actress Meena reportedly received around Rs 75 lakh for her role as Getgekutty’s wife Rani. Aniba Hassan and Esther Anil as sister Anju and Anu have been paid Rs 1 crore and Rs 25 lakh respectively.
About Drishyam Franchise
The original Malayalam film was released in 2013, while the sequel arrived in 2021. Over the years, the franchise has been adapted into several languages, including Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The Hindi adaptation stars Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav. While the first Hindi film was directed by Nishikant Kamat, Abhishek Pathak later took over the franchise following the filmmaker’s death. The Hindi version of Drishyam 3 is scheduled to release on October 2 this year.
