Gurugram, Sep 9 (PTI) A former armyman who allegedly shot dead a PG operator over a financial dispute was arrested by police on Wednesday, officials said.
Amarjit Grewal, alias Amarjeet Fauji (40), was arrested from Delhi after he allegedly killed the PG operator, Hemant Kaushik, late Tuesday evening at the latter’s Ganga Vihar home here where his wife and three children were also present.
A video of the incident has surfaced, showing the accused shooting the PG operator, while his wife and children can be heard screaming, police said.
According to the police, they received information that Hemant Kaushik, a resident of Acharya Puri’s Ganga Vihar, Gurugram had been shot and was being taken to a hospital for treatment.
The police team reached the
hospital, where they were informed that doctors had declared him dead.
Kaushik’s friend filed a complaint to the police, stating that Kaushik and Grewal were involved in some monetary transaction and that Grewal was coming to collect money on Tuesday.
“Amarjeet (Grewal) arrived at his house around 6 pm on Tuesday and they were inside for only about two minutes when argument broke out.
“…Amarjeet took out his pistol and shot Hemant in the forehead and fled the spot,” the complainant said.
Teams of the Sector 14 Police Station and Crime Branch, Manesar jointly investigated and arrested Grewal from Delhi on Wednesday.
“During police interrogation, the accused said he had retired from the Indian Army in 2024. The accused and Hemant Kaushik had become acquaintances through a common friend. In 2021, Hemant had borrowed approximately Rs 6.5 lakh from the accused.
“On Tuesday, during a dispute between the accused and the deceased over it, the accused fired at Hemant Kaushik with his licensed firearm, resulting in his death,” said Naveen Sharma, ACP crime.
He said the police team is conducting a detailed interrogation of the accused, and efforts are being made to recover the weapon used in the crime. PTI COR SKY SKY
