In a society where truck driving is still widely regarded as a man’s profession, 25-year-old Neha Thakur from Himachal Pradesh is rewriting the narrative.
Defying long-held stereotypes tied to grit, endurance and endless highways, Neha has emerged as a professional truck driver while also building a strong presence as a social media influencer and vlogger, proving that the driver’s seat recognises skill, not gender.
From Graduation To The Open Road
Neha Thakur’s journey is nothing short of cinematic. After completing her graduation, she trained to become an air hostess. While many around her dreamed of soaring through the skies, Neha found herself drawn instead to the roar of powerful engines and the thrill of driving.
She admits she was never interested in desk jobs or the glamour
industry. Heavy vehicles had always fascinated her.
Learning In Secret, Driving With Courage
Determined to follow her passion, Neha took a bold step. Without informing her parents, she secretly learnt to drive a truck and practised whenever she could. Over time, she began driving her father’s truck. When she finally revealed her decision to her family, they were initially taken aback.
However, recognising her confidence and determination, her parents eventually offered their full support.
From Local Deliveries To Long Routes
Neha Thakur began her career by transporting goods within local areas. As her confidence and skills grew, she started driving large trucks on long-distance routes far beyond Delhi. Each journey strengthened her belief that she had chosen the right path, despite the challenges.
On the suggestion of her sister, Neha began documenting her unusual journey on camera. What started as an experiment soon turned into a powerful online presence.
Today, her YouTube channel boasts over 460,000 subscribers, while millions follow her on Instagram. Through her vlogs, Neha Thakur offers a raw and honest glimpse into the demanding yet exciting life of a truck driver.
Harsh Reality Of Life On The Road
Neha Thakur is quick to point out that her journey was not as simple as shifting gears. With three years of experience, she explains that truck drivers work tirelessly to keep the country moving, delivering goods day and night, regardless of weather conditions. There are days when food is available and others when it is not.
However, the most painful challenge, she says, is the lack of respect drivers often receive from society.
Neha’s experiences reflect the struggles of thousands of truck drivers who are frequently overlooked and disrespected on the roads. As a woman in a male-dominated profession, the obstacles she faced were doubled. Yet, she refused to give up, choosing resilience over retreat.
Redefining Strength And Skill
Today, Neha Thakur is doing far more than delivering goods across highways. She is dismantling age-old stereotypes and inspiring change. She confidently states that a steering wheel does not recognise gender, it recognises skill. Through her success, Neha hopes to encourage young women across the country to pursue unconventional dreams.
Her message is clear: with passion and determination, no job is insignificant and no path is truly closed.
