Jana Nayagan Makers Unhappy With CBFC? Director Of Vijay's Film Says 'They Had No Evidence'

After much delay, Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan is finally set to hit theatres on July 23. The film, which was initially supposed to release in January this year, was granted a go-ahead by the Central Board of Film Certification recently. Now that fans are eagerly waiting to watch the movie in theatres, director H. Vinoth has said that even he is both, excited and nervous aboyt the release.

In a recent interview with CNN-News18, H. Vinoth opened up about the delay in film’s release and said, “First feeling was – why did it happen to us. If this happened to another film, it’s different. This came when Vijay sir has entered politics. We had doubts but didn’t have evidence. What did the censor board do? There was no evidence. Did they naturally

need that much time? We had no evidence. There are gaps and unanswered questions. This period was confusing. End of the day, producer and Vijay sir were supporting and backing us.”

He revealed why Vijay called him after the film initially failed to get a certificate from the censor board and added, “When we didn’t get the censor certificate, Vijay sir called me. He asked us not to worry. He said we will handle. Producer called the hero and said he will stand with Vijay sir. He made that promise. There was an understanding among us. So this was a big learning process for us.”

Asked if he is unhappy with the CBFC, the director stated, “Without evidence or clues, I don’t know. There are unanswered questions. There is no answer to any of this.”

For the unversed, Jana Nayagan was initially scheduled to hit theatres on January 9, 2026. However, it was then postponed due to certification issues. The film was referred to a Revising Committee following complaints alleging that certain scenes portrayed religious sentiments and the armed forces in an objectionable manner. The film was granted an ‘A – Adult Only’ certificate earlier this month.
