Rhea Chakraborty has opened up about a personal decision many women face — balancing career goals with the ticking biological clock. On her podcast Chapter 2, she revealed that she recently visited a gynaecologist to explore egg freezing.
“I am 33 and I recently visited a gynaecologist for egg freezing. I am thinking about doing it,” she told guest Huma Qureshi. Reflecting on the pressures women face, Rhea added, “It is such a weird place to be. Your body clock is telling you that you need to have kids, but your mind is telling you, you already have a kid — your brand, your business — and you have to nurture that baby.”
Rhea has previously shared her thoughts on societal expectations around marriage and motherhood. In a conversation with Humans
of Bombay, she said she does not believe in a “right age” for marriage and would be open to tying the knot later in life. She also questioned why women face more pressure than men to start a family due to biological timelines.
She spoke candidly about egg freezing, noting that the process can be physically demanding. “Egg freezing is torturous… but do it if it helps,” she said, highlighting it as a practical option rather than a romanticised choice. Rhea emphasised that she is not ready to settle down yet, as her career remains a priority.
The actor mentioned that many of her friends have undergone egg freezing in their 20s and 30s. Considering her own career and personal goals, Rhea feels delaying motherhood makes sense. “At 32, I feel I have much more to accomplish in my career before thinking about starting a family,” she explained.
Rhea Chakraborty began her television career in 2009, participating in MTV India’s TVS Scooty Teen Diva, where she finished as the first runner-up. She later auditioned to become a VJ at MTV Delhi and was selected, going on to host several shows including Pepsi MTV Wassup, TicTac College Beat, and MTV Gone in 60 Seconds.
She made her film debut in 2012 with the Telugu movie Tuneega Tuneega, portraying the character Nidhi. Her Bollywood debut came a year later with Mere Dad Ki Maruti, in which she played Jasleen. In 2014, she appeared as Sonali in Sonali Cable, and in 2017, she featured in YRF’s Bank Chor. She also had cameo roles in Half Girlfriend and Dobaara: See Your Evil, and in 2018, she starred opposite Varun Mitra in Jalebi.
In 2023, she served as a gang leader on the twentieth season of the reality show MTV Roadies, where she emerged as the winning gang leader.
